Welcome Friends and Family!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising blog for my upcoming trip to Port Vila, Vanuatu. As many of you are aware, I am in my final year at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington studying to become a Naturopathic Doctor and Midwife AND beginning September 12th 2010, I will embark on a journey of a lifetime to volunteer as a midwifery student for six weeks in the Maternity Ward at Vila Central Hospital.

Vila Central Hospital is located in the city of Port Vila (the capitol of Efate) and is the main hospital of Vanuatu. On average, 200 laboring women journey per month to the hospital from the island of Efate as well as the surrounding 82 islands to deliver their babies. Resources are exceedingly limited at the hospital, with 1-2 doctors and several nurses staffing each of the four wards -- medical, surgical, pediatric, and obstetrics and gynecology. Volunteers in the form of medical students, midwifery students, and recently graduated medical doctors which they lovingly refer to as "baby docs" provide a much appreciated service to the overtaxed hospital and at the same time receive incredible training in a third world setting where supplies and resources are limited.

This trip is an amazing opportunity for me to further my knowledge and hands-on training in the art of midwifery and in the process nurture and support mothers and families while they lovingly welcome their little ones into the world. To this end, I am asking for your help by making a donation of as little or as much as you would like to offer to assist with travel costs, accomodations while staying in Vanuatu, and much needed medical supplies for the Maternity Ward.

Donations can be made via paypal by clicking on the donations button on the main page or sent by mail to the following address:
